The Brexit millionaires
Is a program discussing how certain people have made a lot of money over the Brexit turmoil while the ordinary citizen and small business owner has suffered. It talks about how the pound has decreased in value allowing millionaires from over seas to purchase huge housing for far cheaper than before the election in comparison to the first time buyer who is seeing an increase in house pricing. It goes onto investigate Jacob Rees Mod who was incredibly pro Brexit and no deal but has been involved in an investment company which he helped set up which since the election could of bought him in £7 million pounds, The criticism is that as he is pro Brexit and believes the UK will stay strong after it but his investment company invests in companies in China and India while the accounts are setup in Ireland. Later on in the program it goes onto business and looks into a large premium hotel business which has seen an increase in business due to the decrease in the pound allowing for rich millionaires to go on expensive holidays in the UK for cheaper while small businesses in this example a stationary shop has had to close one of it's 2 stores due to an increase in prices due to the failing pound. Lastly the program talks about how MP's are making a lot of cash doing talks about Brexit, David Cameron was paid over £100k to do a speech at wall-street about the subject. The documentary is part of the dispatchers series and has Antony Barnett as it's presenter and is produced for Channel 4.
The show does have documentary characteristics like interviews, stats and statistics and trying to find out what the shows about, who's making money of Brexit.
The program uses mainly medium shots for the interviews as alot of them are on the move while the ones sitting down use medium shots. In the Jacob Rees Mod interview it changes shot from the interviewer and the subject while the interview with Steve Eisman on has a straight on shot of him. The program uses cinematic shots with narrative over the top or transition shots and archived footage.
Again the documentary doesn't have super complicated editing, it contains usually around 2 camera angles for the interviewers, which is cut together, the transition shots usually have music and narrative over the top of footage along with some archived footage during the beginning.
The program mainly interviews middle class to upper class politicians and business men trying to get their opinions on the subject and how their being effected by Brexit negatively and positively. The political leaning of the program is clearly anti Brexit coming across as the wealthy and politicians are making a lot of money off Brexit while the normal person is suffering.
The production company isn't listen but is produced for Channel 4 which has a pro left alternative leaning which shows programs which the main channels might differ away from especially as this program does criticize the government and how they are getting rich of the whole thing something like the BBC might not try and broadcast due to it's links to the government.
